A quick visit to the pinewoods looking for siskins, firecrests and the like. None seen, but squirrels and various other birds made up for it.

Morning at Lunt Meadows
A misty morning at Lunt Meadows was pleasant if damp. At least three Kestrels were hunting around the reserve, and six Buzzards had some of the fields across the Alt staked out.

Returning to West Kirby on a rainy but much calmer day, we were able to spot some of the birds that had eluded us in the tempest a fortnight ago.

A break in the weather
The weather has been wretched; torrential rain and driving winds and severe flooding in all the places at risk of that, but today was actually pretty pleasant, with the sky a bright-ish grey and not much wind or rain.

Wind, Waves and Waders on the Wirral

Black Redstart becoming White Whale
I’ve been lurking around the back of the Discovery Centre for days now with no luck. Today’s consolation prize was a sighting of the Caspian Gull that has been around for some months, now minus a leg but seemingly coping fine.

No innuendo intended: Shag at the Marine Lake
Cold today, but bright and sunny as I ventured to the Marine lake to see if the Shag reported yesterday was still present. Sure enough, there it was, sat on the breakwater with Herring gulls, a Greater black-backed gull and a Cormorant for scale.
