Martin Mere in the Rain
After dipping on Whimbrel, Yellow Wagtail and common rhea (really!) we found ourselves at Martin Mere as the weather turned sour.

Lunt Meadows and West Lancs mosses
A quick trip around Lunt Meadows on a windy day failed to produce the Marsh Harrier we were romised in the car park, but Swifts were out in force, joining Sand Martins and the other hirundines. Splendid views of all of these birds as they were almost stalled flying into the stiff breeze.

Pectoral Sandpiper at Marshside
News broke that a Pectoral Sandpiper was with the Dunlin in front of Nel’s Hide, and after failing to pick out Curlew Sandpiper earlier in the week I decided to try again.

Hooded Crow on Plex Moss
A quick trip across Plex Moss looking for White Wagtails wasn’t entirely in vain as I spotted a Hooded Crow hanging out with some Jackdaws on a ploughed field. I’d not seen one before in this country, and with only a few records per year in Lancashire, I’m quite pleased with it.
