News broke that a Pectoral Sandpiper was with the Dunlin in front of Nel’s Hide, and after failing to pick out Curlew Sandpiper earlier in the week I decided to try again.

Several hundred Dunlin were present, a good few of them in winter plumage or otherwise lacking the black tummies, and with them were a hundred or more Ringed Plover, all beyond comfortable viewing distance for my scope. Despite this, I was able to pick up the pectorl sandpiper after a couple of hours, and another birder got on it again shortly afterwards and pointed it out.

Closer to home, Reed Warblers were building their nests in front of the hide.
