Ouzel Pretty Boy Then?
The third time was the charm in the Great Ring Ouzel Hunt of 2016, as after two fruitless searches on Saturday, I finally caught up with one of the birds that had been haunting the sheep enclosure on Ainsdale Dunes. A wary little thing, it saw me shortly after I saw it and relocated to a nearby shrub in short order.

Two Black-throated Divers were spotted on the Marine Lake today: I braved Storm Henry (that had presumably brought them) in search, but couldn’t pick them out.

Marshside Odds and Sods
- Female-type Marsh Harrier down by the tideline on Saturday 23rd.
- Snipe today: one flushed at Fairclough’s platform, one dropped in and out in front of the hide.

Today provided several photographic subjects, including Cormorants and Magpies at Sands Lake and Stonechats further North on the dunes.

Double Duck Dip
A sunny morning with wind that was not especially biting was a good time to interrogate the Wigeon at Hesketh Out Marsh to see if they would give up the American interloper among them. With such close examination, it was interesting to see how many of them had a certain amount of green about the face, but there wasn’t a convincing textbook American wigeon to be seen.

Brrrr. So cold at Sandgrounder’s hide today. 1st winter drake Scaup from Fairclough’s and lots of Redshank en route; Peregrine high overhead; intrguing unidentified flyby in front of the hide.
