    After a little time away from Marshside, it was extremely pleasant to return to Sandgrounder’s and see the place looking like the old Marshside again, with small groups of Avocet, godwit, Redshank and assorted waterfowl approaching the hide quite closely.

  • First Avocets of Summer

    Marshside was basking in glorious golden sunshine although there was still a nip in the air. Skylarks were aloft, filling the air with song, and the Coots were getting noisy and frisky.

    The sight of Reed Buntings under the feeders reminded me to transcribe a running list of garden sightings I have around the place. Nothing unusual yet, and I should note that I’m counting birds that fly over, such as the pair of Mallards that just passed through, as well as those that perch.

    Around the Lathom area: Redwing, long tailed tit and Robin along the side of a field containing Fieldfare. I think this is going to be a life tick if I’ve guessed the date correctly? There were more Fieldfare a day or two later at Lunt Meadows.

    A sunny but cold day at Lunt Meadows. A pair of Stonechats were boldly occupying some fence posts, and two short eared owls were hunting over the meadows (distant views only today).
