Spotted Crake, Spotted Redshank, Spotted Flycatcher, Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Speckled Wood, there was a theme to the day’s visit to Burton Mere Wetlands. And the theme was Spoonbills!

Nine of them! Simultaneously majestic and goofy, the flock arrived at around the same we did and mostly stood around with their spoons under their wings, although we were treated to them flying around in formation before plopping down in the midst of the wader flock, causing godwits and knot to scatter
