An afternoon visit saw Sutton’s Marsh almost completely empty – at least in front of the hide. Rimmer’s Marsh was covered in birds, however, and we saw lots of Golden Plover mixing with the Lapwings.

Several Pochards were having their usual nap on Rainford’s lagoon but the highlight was a Great White Egret dropping in near Polly’s Pool.

A trip to the rapidly-shrinking site of the sandwork’s failed to provide the hoped-for raptors (Marsh Harrier and Short Eared Owl had been seen the day before) but there were plenty Little Egrets and huge numbers of Cormorants lining the edge of the sea.
